We breed for the ideal cow, bulls are a by
product. Unless a bull is clearly unsound, we're not going to worry
a whole lot about whether he's 'thick in front' or what's his rib
eye measurement. Meat yield is a necessary part of beef production
but it's not our focus. We're selecting for calm females of sound
conformation that wean a heavy calf. Their male progeny have value
but mainly for the female traits they transmit.

Without a yearly dispersal sale, we have the
freedom to raise our calves naturally without hormone implants,
creep feed or special attention. Female calves who index ahead of
their peers join the cow herd and are then graded yearly to select
for superior conformation.
